Guide to Ordering Gluten Free at Round Table Pizza and Review

round table gluten free crust

Known for its quality gourmet pies and unique atmosphere, Round Table Pizza has been at the forefront of the pizza game for decades now, and, as recently as a few years ago, they’ve begun carving out their niche in the gluten-free pizza world as well.

The gluten-free menu at Round Table includes many items in their salad bar, all the naturally GF pizza toppings, and their unique crust, which is much thicker and heartier than the average gluten-free crusts out there.

However, there isn’t much information or feedback about the chain’s performance in the gluten-free arena, and that’s where this guide comes in.

In this post, we’ll share everything we learned about Round Table’s gluten-free menu during our taste-testing at one of their restaurants and give you our honest opinions of their pizza and overall experience.

Here are the key takeaways…

Key Takeaways

  • They offer one type of gluten-free crust mostly made of Tapioca and Rice flours
  • The crust is thick and can easily handle lots of toppings without getting soggy
  • Eat the pizza while still hot and try less salty toppings for the best taste
  • You can build your own pizza or ask for one of their combinations to be made on the crust
  • Not all of their restaurants carry the GF crust; call before you head over
  • Price was decent for multi-topping pizza

Round Table Gluten Free Crust Ingredients, Nutrition Facts, and More

Round Table Pizza’s Gluten Free Crust Ingredients: Water, Tapioca Flour, Rice Flour, Whole Grain Millet Flour, Chickpea Flour, Brown Sugar, Vegetable Oil Blend (Canola Oil, Extra Virgin Olive Oil), Potato Flour, Yeast, Honey, Baking Powder (Sodium acid pyrophosphate, sodium bicarbonate, corn starch, calcium sulfate, monocalcium phosphate), Gum (Cellulose, Guar, Xanthan) and Salt.

The nutrition label posted here is for the King Arthur’s Supreme combination we ordered on their gluten-free crust. Round Table has not posted the nutrition facts for the crust as a stand-alone food item, and no other sources had any info either.

You can look up the nutrition values for the rest of the combinations listed under the gluten-free crust section to get an idea of what you’ll be eating before you order.

Round Table Pizza’s Gluten Free Toppings

With a full salad bar and plenty of gluten-free items, rest assured that there’s no shortage of GF ingredients and toppings at Round Table.

You can see all the gluten-free food items on Round Table’s allergen chart. The chart has made it super easy to see if your favorite item contains gluten or not, in addition to all other major allergens.

Based on this chart, we’ve compiled lists of all the gluten-free pizza toppings Round Table offers in an organized format below for a simpler way to view everything at a glance.

Round Table’s Gluten Free Pizza Review | Taste Test and Experience

The first lesson we learned in the taste-testing phase was that not all Round Table restaurants carry the gluten-free crust. So, we had to make a little detour to get to the nearest participating restaurant, about 35 minutes away.

We looked over the menu and soon figured out that it’d be more cost effective to order one of their combos on the GF crust rather than building-our-own pizza.

So, we went for one of their most popular combinations, the King Arthur’s Supreme, which is topped with pepperoni, Italian sausage, salami, linguica, mushrooms, green peppers, onions, and black olives.

And here’s everything we experienced:

The Pizza (Taste & Texture)

The mixture of pepperoni, the two sausages, and salami made the pizza a bit salty and the veggie toppings couldn’t quite cut through that.

After all, according to the nutrition values published by Round Table, each slice of King Arthur’s pizza on the GF crust has 620mg of sodium. King Arthur’s sodium content is also high on other crusts they offer, so our pizza’s saltiness couldn’t have been from the GF crust.

The sauce and the cheese were also lost in the mix of meats, so we didn’t get to taste them much.

The crust tasted fine, though a bit bland on its own. It could’ve used a little more sauce to moisten things up and bring out the flavor, but it did its job of holding everything together well.

As for the texture, the crust was doughy. This was not the average thin GF crust that brands like Blaze, Pieology, or even Pizza Hut offer; it was thick, like a regular wheat-based crust.

Here is a pic showing the crust thickness:

The Employees & Pizza Preparation

We had no problems with customer service, and the staff was extremely helpful. However, like the people at Domino’s and Pizza Hut, they had little knowledge of food allergens on their menu.

As for the preparation, all pizzas are made in the same area, so cross-contamination is a real possibility.

Regarding timing, it took only 15 minutes from order to hand-off to get our pizza, and this was when the restaurant was about 50% full- so kudos to Round Table servers for their efficiency.

Price

Round Table Pizza’s prices are comparable to other pizza chains. The King Arthur’s Supreme combo on the gluten-free cost us $16.99 + tax. Not the lowest price we’ve ever paid for a small GF pizza, but not the most expensive either.

Here is the breakdown of the cost:

Final Words

Round Table’s gluten-free pizza is unique and worth a try if you enjoy thick, doughy crusts.

Taste-wise, it’s best if the crust is topped with mostly veggie toppings to balance out the dryness of the thick dough. Also, don’t hesitate to ask for a bit of extra sauce or cheese to be added just to moisten the crust up.

And, of course, the pizza will be in its best taste if you eat it right away- so no leftovers!

Overall, we thought the pizza could have been a bit better, given Round Table has been in the game for a lifetime now, but we’d still recommend giving their gluten-free pizza a try at least once.

Just remember to check that your local restaurant carries the GF crust before making the drive.
