elf vitamin c putty primer

elf first rocked the beauty world with their high end knock-off pore filling putty primer. Since it was so successful, they added several to their line. It has been a while without a new primer, and now we finally have the elf C-Bright Putty Primer. What makes this one new and different is Vitamin C for glowing skin. I am reviewing this primer with full details to see if it meets its claims and works for your skin type.

Details & Claims

First I will start with where to buy this primer. Most retailers that carry the brand should have this primer. It sells for $12 at Amazon, Ulta, Target, and elf’s website. You get .74 oz in the pot. If you want a travel or sample size before committing to the full deal, you should check out the C-Bright Putty Primer Mini.

This should be a smooth and velvety makeup primer that provides skincare benefits. It is enriched with 2% Viatmin C to help to brighten and even out skintone over time. It should help your skin to appear more revitalized, bright, and radiant.

The formula is fragrance-free and great for dry, oily, and combination skin. It should prep and prime your skin for long-lasting makeup, while also giving you a smooth and flawless complexion even if you do not wear makeup.

For how to use it, you can simply apply it with your fingers in a thin, even amount to moisturized skin before applying your makeup. You should allow it to set for 30 seconds before applying foundation.

Review

First, it has a clear formula that is lightweight. It feels slick in the pot as you swipe your fingers over it, but it is non-greasy. I prefer to apply it with my fingers to allow the heat of my skin to spread it and really work it in. Of course, elf recommends that you use their Putty Primer Applicator. I use that brush to apply other makeup products, as I find that it causes the primer to sit on top of the skin.

This primer does not fill pores, so you will need to reach for their original Poreless Putty Primer or your favorite pore filling primer. It does leave your skin feeling smooth, but not tacky, and it layers well with skincare. It provides a healthy, natural, subtle glow.

While I never saw shimmer on the face, I did notice a fine shimmer in the product when I took the pot outside into the sunlight for photos.

Makeup applies normally over top, however, once you apply foundation and powder, your face will take on the finish of those products. That means you will loose the finish of the primer itself.

During the day, this primer allows oil through on the t-zone and gets very shiny. This surprised me given the claim that it is for oily and combination skin.

After a full day of wear, I do see normal wear and tear. My final thoughts are that it may extend wear time a bit, but it is nothing wild. It clearly does not harm wear time outside of the oil production in the t-zone.

It mostly meets its claims, but it will take extended use to see if it changes the skin over time. This is just as good as the entire putty primer line. I have a comparison review on all of them in which elf Putty Primer is best.

This primer creates a healthy glow and smooth skin for makeup application. It pretty much meets its claims, but it will take extended use and time to see skincare benefits. Do keep in mind that it exaggerates the shine of oily areas. Are putty primers a part of your go-to makeup? Until next time, continue to let your true beauty shine.
