Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 ‘s Blood of the Dead Easter egg has officially been solved by GiantWaffle, AdmiralBahroo, Vulta and woops. This guide will walk you through the process with help from NoahJ456, who finished the quest shortly thereafter.
In order to start this quest, you’ll need:

- The Spectral Shield and Pack-a-Punch
- Hell’s Retriever and the Spoon or Golden Spork

Go to the Warden’s Office. Next to the Titan wallbuy you’ll see this wall. Melee it with the Spoon to create some scratches on the surface.
Shock and Denial
From this point forward, you must wait until at least Round 17 to progress. While you wait, we suggest using the above guide to get the Blundergat and spin the box for the other team members. Once you have Blundergats, upgrade them to Magmagats. (Basically, just use this time to get as strong as possible.)
Once Round 17 begins, go to the number pad in the Citadel Tunnels and enter 666. This forces a Brutus to spawn, and you must lure the Brutus to the wall you scratched with the Spoon. The Brutus will do a big charge attack that offers access to the Warden’s Ritual Chamber. Interact with the body under the drapes. A cutscene will play. Once it’s over, grab the small, circular stone on the desk.
Pain and Guilt
Take that stone and place it on the map in the spawn point at Richtofen’s Lab.
This causes the Kronorium to appear in the corner of the room. Interact with it, and follow the bird that takes the Kronorium up the stairs and out to sea. For the next four rounds, you’ll need to find this bird once per round. It can spawn pretty much anywhere on the map, so just use your shield to see and track him using audio cues. You’ll hear some ethereal wailing and seagull sounds as you approach. Here are some clues as to where the bird might spawn:
- Catwalk: Above the entrance
- Cell Block: Electric Cherry
- Cell Block: Monkey Bomb statue below the hound location
- Citadel Tunnels: Downstairs below the Warden’s Office.
- Citadel Tunnels: By the hanging body to the left of the number pad
- Citadel Tunnels: On the number pad itself
- Citadel Tunnels: By a group of sandbags
- Citadel Tunnels: On the walkway alongside the Power Room
- Docks: At the Cola Perk machine
- Library: On a top shelf near a radio
- Michigan Avenue: The voltage meter opposite of the Warden’s Office
- Recreation Yard: At the top of a pillar
- Richtofen’s Lab: On the second floor
- Roof: By the doorway
- Showers: Next to the washing machine
- Times Square: Above the entrance to the Cafeteria
- Warden’s Office: By the doorway
- Warden’s Office: Outside on the corner of the balcony
- Warden’s Office: On top of the fireplace
- West Grounds: On top of the truck
If you hear a noise in any of these spots, those descriptions should help you zero in on a precise location. When you find it, use your Shield’s Spirit Blast attack. Do this three times. On the fourth sighting, you’ll also come across an orb that looks like this.
Instead of the bird sounds, you’ll hear sobbing when it appears. You should find it somewhere close to the number pad. When this happens, go to the number pad and input 872.
This spawns a Zombie blood pack. Pick it up, go back to the orb/bird location and hit the bird with Hell’s Retriever. This will add the Kronorium to your inventory.
Anger and Bargaining
Take the Kronorium to the newly opened Ritual Room and place it on the body in the chair.

A cutscene will trigger. When you can move again, use the Shield to reveal three numbers on the pages of the book. Input those digits in the number pad to trigger one of five randomized challenges. The light on the lighthouse will shine in the direction you must proceed.
To start each challenge, go to the location and do a Spirit Blast. You’ll know you’ve done it right when a red portal opens. If you fail, return to the book and draw a new challenge in the next round. When a challenge is finished, go back to the book and get new numbers.
Showers: You’ll see a ghost playing the banjo. One player must interact with it to take the banjo. When you do, the banjo-holding player and team must proceed to a circle and get as many kills as possible until the circle vanishes. After about 90 seconds, the banjo will start draining the health of the person wearing it, so you must act quickly. When it’s done, give the banjo back to the Zombie. Grab the stone on the ground that spawns where the Zombie was standing.
Michigan Avenue: Once this challenge activates, go to the Cafeteria and get one normal Zombie kill. You should then see a ghost Zombie through your Shield that you can Spirit Blast. This makes it visible. You need to escort the Zombie from the Cafeteria to the portal in Michigan Avenue. The Magmagat is great for clearing out large areas for the Zombie to move. When it reaches its destination, the Zombie will drop a stone by the portal location.
Docks: For this challenge, the lighthouse emits Morse Code which must be inputted into the machine behind the cages in the Warden’s Office at Sully Port. Long blinks are dashes, while short blinks are dots. To input a dot into the recorder, hold the button half a second. Dashes last three seconds or more. If you make a mistake, the Warden will laugh. When it’s finished, your character will speak.
Go to the Infirmary, get a kill and a ghost Zombie will spawn that you will be able to see through your Shield. Spirit Blast him and he’ll stop moving. Get your team together and make sure everyone interacts with the Zombie. Kill other Zombies around your new friend to charge it with souls. Do it fast enough, and the Zombie will attach to a player and follow them. Take the Zombie down the Gondola and to the Dock portal. When it gets there, it will drop a stone that you must pick up. If it didn’t make it there, you didn’t charge enough souls.
Power House [updated as of patch 1.03]: Interact with the sparkling generator in the back of the room.
This is basically a game of Simon Says. One light will blink; touch that light and go on to the next round that features two lights. The last round has five lights.
When you finish, four lights will come back on. Make note of the three that are fully turned on and ignore the blinking one.
On each generator is a piece of paper with a symbol. Write down the symbols that correspond to your three lit generators.
Pick up this nearby notecard on the table.
Go to the other power station at the West Grounds and insert the card. This turns on monitors that cycle through symbols. Find the monitors with your symbols from the previous step, interact with them and write down the new associated symbols that display.

Go back to the Power House, and you’ll see a ghost tampering with levers by using your Shield. When the ghost is on the way to the station featuring your new symbols, hit it with your Spirit Blast. As of update 1.03 the step will fail if the ghost gets too close to the correct symbol switch. He’ll briefly become visible and pull that lever out. Do this for all three symbols. The red stone will spawn under the Zombie’s feet when you’re done.
New Industries [updated as of patch 1.03]: Start by having one member take the horde and lure them to the Cafeteria. Get a kill in D Block, and a ghost will spawn in the Library. Spirit Blast him and he’ll start moving to go get a Spork. You need to essentially drain all of this Zombie’s power by Spirit Blasting and using the key until he turns red and dies. As of update 1.03 you can only drain in increments of about five seconds before it stops working. You need to stop and spawn him in again, draiin for five or so seconds and repeat. This step may change slightly in future updates.
Have some team members kill surrounding Zombies to recharge your blasts, and keep repeating till the process ends. You might also want someone to stand in his way to block him. When he’s red, you can let him into New Industries. He’ll drop a stone when he dissipates.
The Boss Fight
Once all five challenges are done, go to Richtofen’s Lab and place your collected stones on the map. Go to the Ritual Room and stand near the corpse. This will charge all players and spawn the Summoning Key. A cutscene will play.
The bird will set you free from your cells and drop your equipment in a bag. Don’t forget to pick it up. The bird will take you back to the lab and you’ll see a cutscene. Grab the final stone dropped by the Warden and place it on the map. This will open a door to a new area. Have all players go up the stairs and into the dimmed lights. Interact with the door to start the fight.
In the boss fight area, kill Zombies until the Warden spawns. When he does, stand in the red areas and shoot the orbs. Once all the orbs are down, Spirit Blast the Warden and Spirit Blast the orb on the central machine. Repeat this process three times.
On the last stage, Richtofen must activate the machine to sit in it. This triggers a cutscene. Richtofen must return to the boss area by standing in the dim light like before.
