4 Great Things to Do in Dubois, Wyoming

Dubois (pronounced DEW-BOYS) is located in the Wind Rivers area of Wyoming, about halfway between Lander and Grand Teton National Park. It’s sort of like Jackson, Wyoming, but without the commercialism.

I highly recommend visiting Dubois if you’re road-tripping in or out of Grand Teton through this valley (watch my Wind Rivers video to prepare).

But I also recommend visiting Dubois as a side trip from Grand Teton primarily for its incredible new museum and a few other nice surprises.

Spend All Day at the National Museum of Military Vehicles

OK, I don’t want to build this up too much for you, but this might be the best museum I’ve ever been to.

When I said that on Instagram, someone told me I must not have been to the Louver. True, but does the Louver have tanks?

The National Museum of Military Vehicles does, and a whole lot more! This is NOT just a collection of old castoffs. This is a top-notch museum experience with interpretation and elaborate displays.

Take my word for it: JUST GO.

Eat Pie at the Cowboy Cafe

Someone told us to visit the Cowboy Cafe for a delicious meal. But if we didn’t have time for a meal, we must get some pie to go

A thousand times YES.

We got two kinds of pies, and they were some of the best we’ve ever had. I only wish we would have been going through at lunchtime to try the food.

Take Your Photo at the Antler Arches

Jackson, Wyoming, is famous for its Antler Arches at all four corners of the Town Square.

Dubois has arches as well! Well, it actually only has ONE arch. But it’s located right on the main street and is an easy photo op. Take the time to walk around to see a few stores while you’re at it.

Learn About Wildlife at the National Bighorn Sheep Center

There is another museum in Dubois – the Bighorn Sheep Center. I enjoy bighorn sheep (rams – the guys with the curly horns) and I would have enjoyed learning about them, but we didn’t have the time to do this.

Note: they do NOT have bighorn sheep here. This is only a museum.
